5 Ways to Bring a Little Kindness to your Marketing

Being kind is such a simple thing, but don’t underestimate how powerful an act of kindness can be! From little things like remembering a customer’s birthday to grander gestures like giveaways or free product.

So, in this blog, we wanted to inspire you with ways you can use kindness in your marketing, to support your local community, give back and become the brand that really reflects who you are.

1. Be kind to your customers

These are the people who have supported your business and been loyal to your brand…it makes sense to reward them. Importantly, you want your acts of kindness to feel genuine, so the more personal you can make them, the better! Thanking them for their custom, perhaps with a message that goes out with an email receipt or checking in with a non-sales related email, will add a kind, human touch to your interaction with customers. A small treat every now and then also works well, so a spontaneous give away on social media, an exclusive preview for email subscribers or a surprise discount in the post, are all acts of kindness that will make your customers feel warm and fuzzy about your business.

2. Be kind to your staff

Messages of support and appreciation cost nothing but will mean the world to your staff. Letting someone know they are appreciated for the hard work they do is a simple but powerful way to be kind. You can also be available to them, either to listen or for advice, and if they happen to mention their favourite chocolate bar, drop one on their desk - it’s the little things that show you really care and go such a long way to feeling valued.

3. Be Kind to your supporters

I’m talking about those fellow local businesses, suppliers, associates and peers, who have supported you and your business in the past and are there for you now. It’s still proving tough for businesses of all sizes, so taking the time to share their content through your own communication channels, give them a shout out on social media, tag them in your posts or even send them a little card to say you are thinking of them, is a thoughtful thing to do and will, I’m sure, be hugely appreciated. Share the love!

4. Be kind to your followers

Make sure you make your followers feel valued by taking the time and the effort to like their comments and post non-generic replies to their comments and questions. You can also show you care by surprising followers with exclusive discounts, only applicable to them. You can share valuable content with them that you think will be useful or fun to read, this can be content you have created in the form of blogs or newsletters, or links to other people’s content or offers. As always, the easiest way to be kind, is to simply say thank you, so do it well and do it often! 😊

5. Be kind to yourself

In your quest to be kind, please make sure you take a little time to be kind to yourself too! The last few years has been challenging, so take the time to acknowledge what you have learnt and want to apply to your life and business moving forward. Perhaps it’s a slower pace of life, or less pressure, more time with the family, or simple pleasures like pottering in the garden, no commute or the time to cook from scratch. Don’t feel guilty about enjoying these moments, and sharing some of them in your blogs, stories or posts. Show your human side. By allowing your customers into your personal life, they will be able to connect with you, and your brand, in a deeper way.

Kindness is vital to our individual and collective mental health and can reap so many rewards for your business too. It’s win win!
